Inn, Bishop Field Office, BLM. Started on USFS land two miles south of Mono City, CA. Brush and timber. Minimal fire behavior with smoldering. Area and road closures in effect.
June 1, 2025 at 9:25 AM The incident continues to downsize, and command of the Inn Fire has officially transitioned back to the local unit.
Hotshot crews will continue working in the steep, rocky terrain on the west side of the fire to secure the remaining open line and mop up lingering heat sources that could threaten containment. Progress in this area has been slower due to the extremely rugged landscape. From its lowest point near Mono Lake, the Inn Fire climbed more than 3,000 feet in elevationโover half a mile vertically as it spread upslope into steep, high-altitude terrain. This dramatic rise added to the operational complexity of suppression efforts. Crews are completing suppression repair efforts as containment lines become available for repair.

The Inn Fire is now 82% contained. Fire behavior remains minimal, with smoldering and creeping observed in ground vegetation. Yesterday, crews focused on strengthening containment lines, especially on the west side of Highway 395, where handline construction is underway in steep, rugged terrain. The remaining uncontained areas include the high-elevation slopes and sections along the east side of Highway 395 near the roadway. On the west side, handline construction is progressing slowly due to limited access and dense fuels. Pockets of heat remain in the western tip of the fire and within the central interior east of Highway 395.

Firefighters are continuing mop-up operations, working over 100 feet in from the fireโs edge to ensure the perimeter is secure. Mop-up involves using water or hand tools to stir and cool residual heat, ensuring hidden embers and hotspots are extinguished to prevent flare-ups as conditions are expected to be warmer and drier.
Suppression repair is underway on the east side of the fire near Mono County Park, where chippers, dozers, and excavators are being used to reduce the impacts of fireline construction. Resource advisors are guiding these efforts to help restore the landscape, reduce erosion, and support ecological recovery.
The burn area continues to pose several hazards, including rockfall, loose soils, and burning stump holes. To protect public health and safety, the Inyo National Forest has issued a Forest Closure Order for the Inn Fire area as of May 27. Please avoid the closure area. Official order and map: Inyo National Forest Alerts
As of May 25, Highway 395 has reopened with traffic controls in place. Drivers are urged to remain alert and use extreme caution due to continued fire operations and personnel in the area.
Thank you for your continued support and cooperation as firefighters work toward full containment.

Firefighters continue to make progress on the Inn Fire, which is now 70% contained as of last night. Crews are focused on mop-up operations, working more than 100 feet in from the fireโs edge to secure the perimeter. Mop-up involves using water or hand tools to stir and cool any remaining heat, ensuring that hidden embers or hotspots are fully extinguished.
Suppression repair efforts have also begun in some areas of the fire. This work includes using equipment and guidance from resource advisors to reduce the impacts of fireline construction and restore the landscape as much as possible. These repairs help prevent erosion and support ecological recovery. Suppression repair can also involve back haul of firefighting equipment. During the Initial Attack phase approximately 3 miles of hose was deployed, as well as various pumps, and water tanks.
Firefighters remain actively engaged in increasing the containment percentage, continuing to mop-up, patrol, and secure the fireline, while suppression repair will expand to additional areas as conditions allows
Cooler conditions prevail over the fire area in the early morning, however temperatures are expected to increase to 80 degrees this afternoon with an increased chance of showers and thunderstorms.

Firefighters continue to increase containment on the Inn Fire, which is now 54% contained as of last night. Containment has been secured along the entire east side of Highway 395 and parts of the west side, where firefighters have completed dozer and handlines. In the remaining uncontained areas, crews are working in extremely steep and rugged terrain to establish a secure perimeter.
Crews are also focused on mop-up operations, which involve working at least 100 feet inward from the fire’s edge. During mop-up, firefighters use water and hand tools to stir the ground and cool any remaining heat. This process ensures that hidden embers or hotspots are fully extinguished, reducing the risk of flare-ups and helping to strengthen containment lines.

To further reduce risk in an extremely dry field on the northeast side of the fire, a sprinkler system is being utilized to keep the area moist and help prevent any potential flare-ups.
In some parts of the fire, crews have also begun backhauling equipmentโremoving hose and other fireline tools that are no longer neededโas containment efforts increase.
Firefighters remain actively engaged in increasing containment, continuing to mop-up, patrol, and secure the fireline.
As of May 25, Highway 395 has reopened. Drivers are advised to use caution and remain alert for fire personnel and equipment working in the area.
Please continue to monitor updates from CalTrans District 9 and the Mono County Sheriffโs Office for the latest information on road status and evacuation guidance. Thank you for your continued support of the hardworking crews on the fireline.

May 26, 2025 at 8:47 AM
Efforts to contain the Inn Fire continue to show steady progress. The fire is now 31% contained, with containment line established along the fireโs edge on the east side of Highway 395. On the northern edge and west of Highway 395, containment work is underway, with completed dozer line extending west from the highway until the terrain becomes too steep for dozers to operate. Crews are continuing handline construction and utilizing hose lays to extinguish remaining heat and secure the fire perimeter.

Yesterday, helicopters were used to drop water on hot spots in the steep terrain on the west side of the fire. Last night marked the final shift for night operations; however, the fire area will continue to be patrolled.
Although overall fire behavior remains minimal, primarily creeping and smoldering, firefighters are working in steep, rugged terrain where rollout (the movement of burning material downslope) remains a concern. Rollout can lead to new ignitions below control lines, so crews are staying vigilant and prioritizing safety. Winds last night tested containment lines, but the fire remained within its footprint attesting to the dedicated work of firefighters and the strength of established containment efforts.
Smoke may still be visible, especially from interior pockets during the heat of the day, as crews work to strengthen lines and deepen containment.
As of last night May 25, Highway 395 has reopened. Drivers are advised to use caution and remain alert for fire personnel and equipment working in the area.

Firefighters on the Inn Fire continue to make steady progress. As of this morning, the fire is 15% contained, with containment efforts focused along the east side of Highway 395. On the north edge of the fire, containment has begun where completed dozer line extends from Highway 395 to the Mono Vista Spring area, supported by ongoing handline construction and hose lay operations to extinguish heat and secure the perimeter.

Yesterday, the Mono County Sheriffโs Office downgraded evacuations from mandatory to advisory, allowing for the repopulation of Mono City and the Lundy area. Power has been restored to the affected communities.
As of yesterday, at 8:00 p.m., Highway 395 has reopened with one-way traffic control between Lee Vining and State Route 167 during the hours 7:30 a.m โ 7:30 p.m. Drivers are advised to use caution and watch for fire personnel and equipment working in the area.
Fire behavior has been minimal, with creeping and smoldering observed throughout much of the day. While growth has slowed, smoke may still be visible, especially during warmer afternoon hours.
Crews continue to build and reinforce fireline, working in steep and rugged terrain to secure the fireโs edge and perform mop-up operations.
Despite the progress, there is still significant work ahead to increase containment. Firefighters remain committed to protecting life, property, and natural and sensitive resources.
Please continue to monitor updates from CalTrans District 9 and the Mono County Sheriffโs Office for the latest information on road status and evacuation guidance.

As of 7:00 a.m. this morning, Nevada Type 3 Incident Management Team 4 has assumed command of the Inn Fire. The assigned Incident Commander is Danny Gallagher.
Yesterday, firefighters made solid progress on the eastern side of Highway 395, constructing and reinforcing containment line and conducting mop-up operations in previously burned areas. However the fire continued to push westward, creating multiple fingers and adding acreage. Dozer operations focused on extending containment line off Highway 395 to the west.
Fire behavior remains active and is burning upslope through dry fuelsโconditions more typical of late June. This unseasonably early activity is challenging firefighters, but crews continue to aggressively engage the fire, while also working carefully around sensitive resources.

Power has been restored to the Bridgeport area, thanks to a power diversion from Lundy Lake Hydroelectric Facility. Officials hope to restore power to Mono City next, when itโs safe to do so.
Highway 395 remains fully closed in both directions for firefighter and public safety. Please continue to monitor updates from CalTrans District 9 and the Mono County Sheriffโs Office for road status and evacuation information.
