As of 5:30 AM, Saturday morning the fire has been mapped at approximately 3,100 acres and is 10% contained. The Mammoth fire was driven by winds last evening, with erratic gusts caused by thunderstorms in the area. The fire is burning in grass, brush, sage and juniper. Crews worked through the night to establish containment lines.
Today, they will continue with direct line construction and reinforcement of these lines. Strong gusty winds are expected today, which could threaten the containment efforts. Additionally, lava reefs remain a challenge for line construction.
Thunderstorms in the fire area producing strong, erratic winds with gusts over 30mph. Forecast for 7/26 is for strong southwest winds with gusts to 20. Temps in the mid 80s with RHs in the low to mid 20s.

Latest mapping update shows the fire at 3,100 acres. Threat to natural gas lines, power and railway infrastructure, and cultural resources.

Modoc National Forest fire personnel responded to the Mammoth fire west of the Dry Lake fire station off Highway 139, which was reported around 3:10 pm Friday afternoon. The resources responded included fire engines, a dozer, and aerial support, which consists of an air attack, tankers, and helicopters.
The fire is burning in grass sagebrush and juniper and is currently 861 acres. For your safety and the safety of the firefighters working in the area please avoid the fire area so the fire personnel can effectively work to contain and suppress the flames.
