On Sunday November 10, 2024 at 6:00PM, there will be a Mountain Fire Community Meeting at Fire Station 54 located at 2160 Pickwick Drive in Camarillo. Residents are invited to attend this informational meeting and hear from local public safety personnel and elected officials on the ongoing response and recovery operations.

The incident management team is working around the clock to ensure areas are safe for re-entry. Prior to allowing re-entry, each area is thoroughly reviewed by response personnel to ensure your safety. Often, this process can take time as damaged electrical and gas connections take considerable effort to secure. Please be prepared for areas heavily damaged by fire to take longer to inspect and secure.

Concerns remain for fire spreading eastward due to the wind shifting to an onshore flow. Crews continue to engage offensively in parts of the fire where possible, building and reinforcing lines, while mopping up. The fire is burning in steep, rugged terrain, with dry and receptive fuels, which have challenged containment efforts. Fire activity moderated due to the decrease in winds over the fire. The fire remains a threat to critical infrastructure. Islands of unburned fuel will continue to burn within the fire footprint.

The Ventura County Fire Department and numerous other agencies remain on scene of the Mountain Incident that was originally reported in the 7900 block of Balcom Canyon Road and Bradley Road.  The fire is currently estimated at 20,596 acres with 5% containment. Fire agencies from across Southern California are now on scene assisting in suppression efforts over the next several days. Numerous evacuation orders remain in effect and will continue through Thursday.

Personnel from the Ventura County Sheriffโ€™s Office are working closely with the incident management team to ensure a timely repopulation of evacuated areas when it is safe to do so. Personnel from Ventura County Sheriffโ€™s Emergency Services will be working throughout the day to conduct damage assessment, ultimately working to start the recovery process and secure state and federal assistance.

On 11/6/2024, Ventura County Sheriff Jim Fryhoff issued a Local Emergency Proclamation and has requested California Governor Gavin Newsom proclaim a State of Emergency for the areas impacted. These emergency proclamations are vital steps  to activating state and federal assistance programs for both fire suppression efforts and assisting residents.

An information Hotline is available for residents by calling 805-465-6650.

The fire began in the Somis area and was driven by winds into the Camarillo Heights and the Camarillo Estates areas, where numerous homes were damaged or destroyed. Fire remains active on the northeast portion of the fire, moving downslope towards the Santa Clara River. Red Flag conditions (high winds, low humidity) are expected to continue through Friday, November 8th in most areas. Ground crews, helicopters, and mutual aid resources continue to actively work to protect lives and property. All evacuation orders and warnings remain in place due to the extreme fire danger.
