On Sunday, a spot fire was found in an isolated section of the fire. Minimal fire activity is anticipated overnight and into Monday.

Fire suppression repair is under way. Steep, remote terrain and hotter weather is increasing the time needed for mop up within the fire perimeter.

Fire equipment and crews will be active in the fire area. Please continue to use caution on the roads.

A marine layer moved in overnight bringing decent humidity as the fire perimeter remains mostly within the Glass Fire Footprint. Large fuels inside the perimeter continue to burn and smolder which will cause visible smoke over the fire area today. Firefighters will continue containment efforts and mop up while working in steep, rugged terrain.

Seasonal weather conditions are expected to persist through this week.

Evacuation WARNING has been LIFTED for ANG-001. (Northern area of Angwin community in and around Friesen Drive lakes and Inspiration Point)

August 25, 2025 at 8:52 AM

Fire activity was moderated Sunday. Firefighters made good progress strengthening containment lines and mopping up hot spots. Some evacuation orders were downgraded on the west side of the fire line in the area where the fire started.

Weather conditions were more favorable Sunday, but conditions will remain warm and dry, with temperatures in the upper 80s across the fire area. The potential for fire growth still exists. Overnight temperatures are forecast to drop to the 60s.

Due to the remote, steep, and rugged terrain, some firefighters are being flown in to access the fire. Night-flying helicopters have also been deployed. The public is reminded that flying drones over the incident area is prohibited as it can ground vital air resources.

The fire grew by 1,841 acres Saturday, with much of the activity observed on the eastern edge of the fire where it pushed towards Aetna Springs Road. Fire activity was moderate overnight where five night-flying helicopters supported the engines, dozers and hand crews on the ground.

A successful firing operation was completed on the western side of Aetna Springs Road, eliminating unburned fuels between control lines and the main fire. This operation bolstered a controlled fire perimeter and helped to provide community protection for Aetna Springs and Pope Valley.

Damage assessment ongoing. There has been no confirmation of structures damaged and/or destroyed.

With the fire burning near communities, structure protection remains a high priority. Firefighters will be actively engaged in protecting homes and other structures, particularly in areas like Aetna Springs Road and Butts Canyon Road, where the fire has been active.

Firefighters today will also focus on constructing direct and contingency control lines while mopping up inside existing contained fire lines.  The fire is burning in rugged terrain, and the weather forecast for the next few days includes continued hot and dry conditions, which will make sustained efforts crucial for containment.

More than 1,200 personnel are assigned to this incident. They are supported by air assets, including multiple helicopters for targeted water drops and air tankers for fire retardant. Incident command is leveraging the experience of firefighters who fought the 2020 Glass Fire in this same area to guide suppression efforts and safely control the fire.

Overnight, the head of the fire was challenging the primary control lines by making slope-driven runs and short-range spotting was observed, but crews were able to hold it within the established contingency lines.

  • Three night-flying helicopters played a critical roll in supporting ground crews to keep the fire within those contingency lines.
  • A primary objective for Saturday is to fortify control lines on the right shoulder near Friesen Drive to close off its spread potential there. A secondary objective will be to focus on the left (northern) shoulder of the fire.
  • UAS operations were also conducted overnight on the fire for reconnaissance.
  • The incident has been well supported with sufficient resources at scene. Included in that is experienced line-leadership who have the experience of battling a fire in the same terrain from back during the 2020 Glass Fire. Their local knowledge has been invaluable.
  • Evacuation orders and warnings remain in place.

Another flight from Intel 12 has been ordered to map the fire and provided updated acreage – 3,235 acres.

A priority Friday has been the dozer work on the right flank, an area that’s seen active fire. The 15 assigned dozers are greatly aiding in establishing control lines and providing access. They are being supported by aerial firefighting operations to tie in the control lines from Rattlesnake Ridge wrapping around to Sugarloaf Mountain to protect communities that lie further to the east. Overnight Thursday into Friday, firefighters were engaged in suppression efforts and were supported by three night-flying helicopters conducting water drops on the fire. The dozers on site worked to re-establish fire access roads as well as constructing contingency lines. Utilizing fire history and recently re-established dozer lines from Napa Firewise continues to aid with access and control.

Working the fire overnight were 53 engines, eight hand crews, eight dozers, four water tenders, three helicopters and a total of 350 personnel. Challenges presented include accessing the edge of the fire, as it is burning in remote and un-populated areas with limited access.

Firefighter safety will be an emphasis once again Friday, with temperatures expected to reach into the upper 90’s.

The incident has been well supported with resources continuing to surge into the area. We anticipate more resources to arrive later in the day Friday.
