Today firefighters continued to establish containment lines. Mop up will continue this evening to ensure that the fire will remain within control lines. The Los Angeles County Fire Department and The Los Angeles County Sheriff Department will remain in Unified Command until fire containment is at 100%.

Overnight firefighters continued to make progress. Mop up will continue throughout today to ensure that the fire remains within the established control lines. Red Flag warnings in effect for much of Los Angeles County through Sunday with gusty winds and low relative humidity. Residents should remain vigilant as conditions can change quickly.

Favorable conditions helped firefighters make considerable progress today. This evening crews will continue to mop up and monitor perimeter lines. Critical Red Flag conditions will persist over most of Los Angeles. Residents should remain vigilant as conditions can change quickly.

Firefighters continued to strengthen perimeter lines and mop up the fire. No fire growth was observed overnight. A more precise acreage was determined using air and ground GIS devices.

Firefighters made progress throughout the night constructing and holding perimeter fire lines. The return of strong offshore winds are a major concern today and residents are reminded to stay vigilant as conditions can quickly change.

On Tuesday, December 5, 2017, at 9:33 a.m., County firefighters responded to a report of a brush fire located at 25101 Rye Canyon Loop in the City of Santa Clarita. Upon arrival, firefighters found five acres burning in light to medium brush with northeast winds at 15 miles per hour. 228 firefighters are on-scene to help with structure protection and firefighting operations.
Evacuation centers have been set up at the following locations:
Valencia High School (500 Bradford Ave., Placentia)
College of the Canyons (26455 Rockwell Canyon Rd., Santa Clarita)
FOR SMALL ANIMALS: West Valley Animal Shelter (20655 Plummer St., Chatsworth) and East Valley Animal Shelter (14409 Vanowen St., Van Nuys)
FOR LARGE ANIMALS: Pierce College (6201 Winnetka Ave., Woodland Hills)
