All evacuation notices in the Ana Fire area are lifted as of today, July 15, at 10:00 am.This will be the final Ana Fire update unless significant fire activity occurs.

The fire transitioned from the Northwest Incident Management Team 12 back to the local area at 06:00 am today.

YESTERDAY’S OPERATIONS: Firefighters completed securing the perimeter, which achieved the goal of 100% containment. Fire personnel continued to patrol the fire. A group off engines, one bulldozer, one crew and a supervisor were available to respond to any new fires in the area.

Crews along with two excavators continued work along the fire perimeter to repair forest and range land impacted from firefighting activities. Developed by local agency advisors, this work includes; repairing containment lines, scattering brush and slash piles from chainsaw operations, knocking down berms, constructing water bars to mitigate erosion, and restoring any damaged trails.

TODAY’S OPERATIONS: A local Type 4 incident commander has assumed command of the fire. A team of five engines will continue to patrol and monitor the fire. Fire suppression repair work will continue as needed.

Local residents, visitors and motorists traveling through may continue to see smoke within the fire area. The smoke is caused by large woody debris that continues to smolder well within the perimeter of the fire. These interior pockets of smolder fuels pose no threat to the containment lines.
Highway 31 is open to through traffic. Motorists are asked to slow down and remain alert if fire personnel and equipment are in the area.

CLOSURES: The Fremont Point Lookout will be closed through August 1 to allow unrestricted suppression and recovery traffic in the area.

SAFETY MESSAGE: With the potential for extreme fire behavior and rapid rates of spread, please be extremely careful when using power tools, firearms and vehicles, as well as more traditional sources of fire, such as matches and lighters.

For the second consecutive day, minimal fire activity was observed on the entire fire perimeter. The change in acreage is due to more precise mapping.
TODAY’S OPERATIONS: Firefighters took advantage of these benign conditions to secure containment lines on the southern perimeter with the primary effort connecting completed fireline from Highway 31 to Forest Road 2901 along Winter Rim.
Crews continued patrol and mop up operations along the west, north and east flanks of the fire, extinguishing all burning woody debris that could threaten containment lines. Fire managers are also assessing repair work that will address the impact from fire suppression activities.
Unburned pockets of fuel with large downed logs continue burning well within the fire perimeter producing smoke that may be seen from the local communities, but pose no threat to fire containment.
Northwest Incident Management Team 12 under Incident Commander Richy Harrod is managing the wildfire in conjunction with local land management agencies. Team 12 is adjusting the number of resources to accommodate the current and expected workload, where excess resources are being reassigned to higher priority fires.
EVACUATIONS: The evacuation notification in place for the area along Highway 31 was reduced to Level 1 (get ready). This notice covers two miles north of Forest Road 2901 and extends two miles south of The Lodge at Summer Lake, as well as all of Ana Estates.
RESTRICTIONS: Highway 31 is open with flaggers managing through traffic during fire operations. Motorists should use extra care, expect delays and use alternate routes if possible.

CLOSURES: Fremont Point Lookout was not affected, however, the Fremont-Winema National Forest has closed the site through August 1 to allow unrestricted suppression and recovery traffic in the area. Reservation holders will be notified and receive a refund.

The Ana Fire is 50 percent contained and remains at 5,833 acres with minimal fire growth occurring yesterday. Approximately 400 firefighters are working to suppress this human-caused wildfire. A group of wildland fire engines, water tenders, fireline supervisors and a helicopter were reassigned to two new wildfires in South Central Oregon.
Fire crews and bulldozers made significant progress today building containment lines on Winter Rim between Forest Road 2901 and Highway 31 in an effort to stop the fire from progressing further south. Helicopters supported ground personnel with water drops to address areas of heat along the fire’s edge. Steep, rocky terrain with limited access continues to challenge fire suppression efforts along the southern fire perimeter, so an alternate control line was built above Summer Lake as a precautionary measure.

Firefighters continued patrolling and reinforcing containment lines along the west, north and east areas of the fire. A long, wet spring yielded an abundance of grass, which is now dry enabling fire to spread rapidly. Please be extremely careful with any type of heat source, including power tools, firearms and vehicles as well as more traditional sources of fire, such as matches and lighters.

The Ana Fire is 20 percent contained at 6,200 acres today with firefighters focusing on reinforcing all containment lines using a combination of ground and aerial suppression work.

Northwest 12 Type 2 Incident Management Team assumed command at 6 p.m. Monday, July 10, relieving the South Central Oregon Fire Management Partnership’s Type 3 IMT.

The fire is located near Summer Lake, Ore between milepost 64 and 71 on Highway 31. After moving north and east most of the day Sunday, a change in wind direction today shifted the active fire perimeter to the southern boundary, visible from Hwy. 31 in Summer Lake.

Hwy. 31 is open to local traffic guided by pilot cars as operations continue 75 miles northeast of Lakeview, Ore. Motorists should expect delays and using alternate routes is advisable.

A level 2 (Get Set) evacuation order remains in place for the area two miles north of Forest Road 2901 and two miles south of The Lodge at Summer Lake along Hwy. 31 and all of Ana Estates. If evacuations are ordered, law enforcement will go door to door in the affected areas.

A community meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, at The Lodge at Summer Lake, 53460 Hwy. 31, to update residents and business owners on the status of the fire, with representatives from fire management, land management agencies and law enforcement.
