The strongest winds are anticipated on Friday along the Sierra and along and west of the Interstate 5 corridor in the Valley. Below normal temperatures today trend warmer Friday into the weekend as high pressure builds back into the region. Areas of Minor HeatRisk are expected in the Delta, Valley, and foothills.

April 1, 2026 at 6:42 AM NWS update: After a relative lull this morning, the next wave of moisture will introduce additional rain, mountain snow, and strong thunderstorm chances, along with gusty south-southwest winds throughout the day.

A northward shift in the weather system will see the majority of precipitation expected across the northern Sacramento Valley and along the mountains, with lighter amounts through the remainder of the Valley. Thunderstorms today will once again have potential for hail (up to 1″), funnel clouds/isolated weak tornadoes, brief heavy rainfall, and gusty winds. As the system rapidly departs the region through the end of the week, dry and breezy to locally gusty north-northeast winds are expected to follow, with Minor HeatRisk returning to the Delta, Valley, and foothills over the weekend.
