The Long Valley Fire started at approximately 2:51 p.m., on Saturday, August 24. The fire is burning approximately 25 miles northwest of Reno, NV, in Lassen County, CA and Washoe County, NV. Fire investigators have confirmed the fire is human caused.
BLM is seeking information from the public as part of its investigation into the cause of the Long Valley Fire. If you or someone you know were on or near mile marker 11 of Hwy 395, in Lassen County, CA, between noon and 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 24 and noticed any activity, please contact BLM law enforcement at 775-857-3511. Any photos or videos taken by bystanders after the fire started and before crews arrived would be helpful to the investigation.
BLM and Truckee Meadows Fire are managing the fire in unified command and all evacuations and road closures have been lifted.
The fire is burning in grass and brush with scattered juniper trees. Fire crews made good progress yesterday and reached full containment with estimated control at noon, on August 28. Crews will continue with mop up and monitoring of the fire area.

Firefighters continue mop-up on the #LongValleyFire near Rancho Haven, CA. Fire saw no growth overnight, & acreage remains at 2,438 acres, containment 65%. The incident will begin demobilizing resources today, and containment is expected to be achieved by 5pm.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. BLM and Truckee Meadows Fire are managing the fire in unified command.
All evacuations and road closures have been lifted.
The fire is burning in grass and brush with scattered juniper trees. Air and ground units are actively engaged in fire suppression activities. Fire fighter crews made good progress yesterday evening and continue to build line around the perimeter of the fire for increased containment.
Firefighter safety is the number one priority and fire behavior changes will be monitored as warming temperatures and lower humidity are expected. The weather today is mostly sunny, with a high in the mid 90’s and a low around 59, with wind gusts up to 25 mph.
