The law enforcement situation near Mineral Bar Campground has been resolved. Our firefighters are now moving in to engage the vegetation fire, which remains approximately 3–5 acres.

Conditions on the ground are currently challenging. As daylight arrives, we will continue working the fire and will provide further updates as more information becomes available.

Please continue to avoid the area and follow all directions from fire and law enforcement personnel.

Evacuation Warning has been issued for Mineral Zone 1.

September 21, 2026 at 5:00 AM Firefighters staged at the Mineral Bar campground, in conjunction with Placer County Sheriff, are re-engaging with the incident on Iowa Hill Road.

CAL FIRE/Placer County Fire Department is currently operating in unified command with the Placer County Sheriff’s Office in the community of Iowa Hill for an armed and dangerous suspect. A vegetation fire has started in the area where law enforcement agencies are actively searching for the suspect. The fire is approximately two acres burning in the timber understory with a slow rate of spread. Because the suspect is still at large, firefighters have not been able to engage the fire. CAL FIRE has eight fire engines, four water tenders, four hand crews, and two bulldozers staged and ready to deploy once the suspect has been detained. Fire activity has moderated and is being monitored by remote sensing aircraft at a high elevation. CAL FIRE/Placer County Fire Department will remain on scene until we have fully contained the vegetation fire.
