When construction of the new Nevada Street bridge temporarily dried up Deer Creek, 49er Breakfast Rotary Club of Nevada City knew a pivot had to be made for its Duck Race.

This year, the 33rd Annual Gold Country Dry Duck Race will be held in Robinson Plaza on Sunday, September 15. Last minute Duck Race tickets will be available starting at noon, with the races following the Constitution Day Parade at about 3 p.m. However, the club will be holding it in a different way; no water and no ducks.

Club President-Elect (and Ducktator) Carol Cox explained, โ€œWe knew that we had to be a bit creative this year. We also wanted to keep the event in downtown Nevada City and still be part of Constitution Day weekend.โ€

The Duck Race, a decades long fundraiser for 49er Rotary to support its local service projects, will still hold the four heats that lead up the big race. Prizes for the top three winners will be $5,000, $1,000, and $500. Prizes for top three winners of each of the four heats are $100, $50, and $25. Duck Race tickets are available for a $5 donation.

Carol continued, โ€œOur fundraiser is essentially a raffle with little plastic ducks and flowing water which make the event a lot more exciting. Weโ€™ll still have a fun time, so plan to stop by Robinson Plaza right after the parade.โ€
