Deer Creek Elementary third graders had a great early afternoon. The kids visited California Organics’ front porch, were treated to organic fruit popsicles and added their wishes to the wishing tree while waiting for the main attraction – Nevada City Police Department’s Ambassador Sunny.
Under the shade of the wishing tree, kids got to pet Sunny and feed her carrots and apple slices.
Sunny becoming the ambassador for NCPD is the idea of Police Chief Dan Foss who imported the idea from his previous job in Madera.
Shoppers at Cali O’ also couldn’t resist coming over and lavishing attention on Sunny. Let’s face it, most of us wanted a pony at some point.
Sunny lives in Citrus Heights on a ranch with lots of other animals, her owners work with her to keep her engaged and calm around crowds, cars and whatever background noise there may be. Her NCPD entourage makes sure she’s comfortable during her outings and we’re hoping to see her soon at a city event.
