The vast changes in delivering both national and local news as well as the challenges of covering an area as vibrant and diverse as Nevada County, will be just a couple of the topics discussed at the upcoming Nevada County Community Forum on Friday, April 19th.

Guest speakers from local media outlets will include Pascale Fusshoeller, Editor of YubaNet, Scott Robertson, CEO of KNCO radio and Chad Wingo, Publisher of The Union newspaper. This free, one hour event will be held on the Sierra College Nevada County campus from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 in the auditorium, room N-12.

Cheryl Dell, former Publisher of the Sacramento Bee, will serve as moderator of this month’s Community Forum event.

“We’ve seen so many changes in media over the last several years,” Dell said, “and I think people would like to know how each of these media outlets makes its decision on what to cover and how they work with each other in delivering the news,” said Dell. “Nevada County is so lucky to have all three of these media sources. I don’t think most of us realize this.”

Sponsored by the Sierra College Foundation’s Nevada County campus, the Community Forum hosts an hour-long, in-depth speaker series several times a year, discussing local issues and topics of interest to both our community and neighboring counties.

Past speakers this year have included NID General Manager Jennifer Hansen and Nevada County Clerk Recorder Natalie Adona, talking about about this year’s upcoming election and the various roles, rules and regulations her office handles during a stressful election year.

The guest speakers planned for next month will be Nevada County Sheriff Shannan Moon, Grass Valley Police Chief Alex Gammelgard and Nevada City Police Chief Dan Foss. Each of these speakers series is free and open to the public.
