A community meeting for Banner Mountain residents will be held on Tuesday, April 29, from 5:00 – 6:30 pm at the Madelyn Helling Library in Nevada City. Join our expert Q&A Panel to address our community’s most pressing questions about the current homeowners’ insurance marketplace. Due to limited seating, attendees are encouraged to participate remotely by registering for the Zoom session at qrco.de/042925.
The LA County wildfires reignited community concerns about wildfire preparedness, evacuation readiness, and insurance coverage and cost. We have learned that residents can be caught off guard when it’s time to submit a wildfire claim and understand what their policy really covers. We have also been learning how the California Department of Insurance regulates the insurance industry, how the California Fair Access to Insurance Requirements (FAIR) Plan is funded, and the efforts of our local agents keep us covered at a rate we can afford. Join us on April 29 as we seek answers to frequently asked questions from our panelists:
- Lisa Strange, Community Relations & Outreach, CA Department of Insurance
- Phillip Irwin, Broker Liaison, CA FAIR Plan
- Ryan Dunsdon, Licensed Agent, East Main Street Insurance
Additionally, one of the goals for this meeting is to generate more neighborhood connections in the Banner Mountain area.
“Banner Mountain is a huge firewise community. Thus neighbor-to-neighbor connections are even more critical as we work to generate safer neighborhoods. The southern California wildfires reminded us what can happen – even in the winter. Neighborhood connections, safer evacuation routes and enhancing defensible space continue to be our goals for the year. We look forward to meeting with more Banner Mountain residents and to help make our wonderful mountain community safer. Please join us,” stated Jeff Peach, Banner Mountain Firewise Coordinator.
