Rough and Ready, CA – Brian Keith Crane, 60, of Rough and Ready, CA, was arrested following a domestic violence incident that occurred on July 29, 2025. At approximately 7:10 p.m. that same day, a woman called 911 as she was fleeing from her residence in Rough and Ready.
Nevada County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) deputies met with the woman at a safe location in the area to determine what had occurred at the residence. Visible markings on her body suggested she had been assaulted. Additional NCSO deputies attempted to contact Crane at the residence, but he had barricaded himself inside.
An NCSO deputy, who is a professional crisis negotiator and recently retired member of the Sheriff’s Critical Incident Negotiations Team, was able to make phone contact with Crane. After over an hour on the phone, Crane agreed to peacefully surrender and was arrested for inflicting corporal injury – 273.5(A) PC; making criminal threats – 422(A) PC; elder/dependent abuse – 368(B)(1); assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm – 245(A)(4); and resisting/obstructing a peace officer – 148(A)(1).
Nine firearms, various ammunition, and rifle magazines were confiscated from the residence. Based on the totality of the incident, NCSO deputies requested a no-bail enhancement for Crane, which was granted by the Nevada County Superior Court. Additionally, NCSO detectives authored and executed a search warrant on the afternoon of July 30, removing an additional two firearms and ammunition from the home.
Crane remains incarcerated at Wayne Brown Correctional Facility.
