Next Tuesday, Nevada County Board of Supervisors will vote on a resolution proclaiming November 6 through 11, 2021 as “Military Appreciation Week” in Nevada County. Ahead of the BOS meeting, Nevada County hosted Colonel Heather A. Fox, the Commander of the 9th Reconnaissance Wing, Beale Air Force Base and Colonel Jason A. Eckberg, the Vice Commander on a tour of Nevada County and luncheon with senior executives.

During this morning’s tour, Beale AFB and Nevada County leaders were joined by CAL FIRE’s Nevada-Yuba-Placer (NEU) Chief Brian Estes as they toured the Nevada County Airport and, of course, the Grass Valley Air Attack Base.

Beale AFB hosted the County in April and August of this year to explore potential ways to partner for mutual benefit and economic development opportunities for the region.

According to a county staff report, Nevada County is currently home to over 8,500 veterans, their dependents and surviving spouses, many of whom receive services through the Nevada County Veterans Service Office (VSO) through the Nevada County Department of Social Services (DSS). Additionally, the County line lays nearly adjacent to Beale Air Force Base with over 7,000 active duty, civilian and contractor personnel deployed, and with 8,000 retirees and dependents for a total estimated associated population of 15,000 people.
