Got a song in you? Get it out with the Sierra Roots/No Place to Go Project’s singer-songwriter workshop.

Wednesday, Aug. 21, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Brass Rail in North San Juan, Nevada County, singer-songwriters Bob Woods and Juliet Gobert will teach a seminar on songwriting.
The workshop is free but advance registration is required. To ensure a productive learning experience, the class will be limited to 12 participants.
The emphasis of the workshop will be on writing songs for social justice about homelessness and alternative (illegal) housing in the spirit of Woody Guthrie, Utah Phillips and Bob Dylan.
The workshop is intended for emerging, adult (21+) singer-songwriters but working songwriters who wish up their game are also welcome. Unlike preprogrammed workshops where the lessons are prepared in advance, this workshop will be geared toward the specific learning objectives of the participants.
Following the workshop, Woods and Gobert will host an open mic for workshop participants as well as perform some of their own original songs. Between them, Woods (Bob Woods Trio and other bands) and Gobert (Heifer Belles) have released 15 albums, including one they recorded together.
