Nevada City, Calif. – CodeRED has notified Nevada County of a cybersecurity breach associated with their recently reported outage.

The following is a statement from CodeRED:

“We have learned that data associated with the legacy OnSolve CodeRED platform was removed from our systems. While there is currently no indication that this data has been published online, we are proactively informing you that it may be leaked.

It appears that the impacted dataset may contain contact information of OnSolve CodeRED users: name, address, email address, phone numbers, and/or associated passwords used to create user profiles for alerts. If the same password is used by users for any other personal or business accounts, those passwords should be changed immediately.”

While the CodeRED system remains down, this interruption does not affect 9-1-1 services. Alternate public safety alerting tools remain fully supported to ensure residents receive emergency notifications, including:

  • Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) for cell phones
  • Emergency Alert System (EAS) for television and radio
  • Official County and Sheriff communication platforms (social media, Sheriff’s mobile app)
  • County emergency information websites such as readynevadacounty.org
  • Local media partners, including print, online, and radio
  • Genasys Protect for evacuations and warnings
  • Hi-Lo sirens and door-to-door notifications by the Sheriff’s Office
