Creating plans for additional evacuation routes as well as fuel reduction and wildfire prevention are just two of the topics that will be discussed at the upcoming Nevada County Community Forum. Nevada County CEO Alison Lehman and Office of Emergency Services Director, Alex Keeble-Toll, will be the featured guest speakers. This free, one hour event will be held on Friday, March 21st, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 in the auditorium, room N-12 on the Sierra College Nevada County campus. Terry McAteer, former County Superintendent of Schools and Steering Committee member for Community Forum, will serve as moderator of this month’s event.
“In 2022, Measure V, a wildfire tax, failed to pass with voters,” said McAteer. “Since that time, the County has worked hard and had success in receiving grants totaling over $60 million for defining fuel breaks, fuel reduction plans and developing additional evacuation routes in the event of a catastrophic countywide fire. Needless to say, wildfire prevention, both locally and statewide, is foremost on everyone’s mind in California,”
Sponsored by the Sierra College Foundation’s Nevada County campus, the Community Forum hosts an hour-long, in-depth speaker series several times a year, discussing local issues and topics of interest to both our community and neighboring counties.
The April Community Forum will feature Nevada County Supervisor Lisa Swarthout, Nevada City Mayor Gary Petersen and InConcert Sierra Artistic Director Ken Hardin, discussing the future of our local arts and music venues of the Miners Foundry, the Center for the Arts and InConcert Sierra, and their plans in making each fiscally competitive and viable long term. This Community Forum will be held on Friday, April 25th.
Each of these speakers series is free and open to the public. To view past videos online of any of the Community Forum speakers, go to: www.sierracollege.edu/ncc
