GRASS VALLEY, Calif. September 17, 2019 – Firefighters were dispatched at 12:47 am last night to respond to a vegetation fire on La Bar Meadows Road in Grass Valley. Upon arrival, they found one of the very large slash piles on a property next to Nevada County’s new yard construction site had caught fire.

The property, accessed through the county’s road to the construction site, has been leased to PG&E contractors bringing slash and chips from the utility’s vegetation management program to the site.

According to reports, firefighters used excavators to section off the burning portion of the pile. As of this morning, the pile is still burning and will likely do so for the next few days. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

There is no need to report the smoke, the fire is being monitored throughout the day.

Updates will be posted here throughout the day.
