SACRAMENTO, California April 5, 2019 – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District will host a public meeting April 10 in Marysville to discuss construction plans for Phases 2B and 3 of the Marysville Ring Levee project.
The open-house meeting will provide an overview explanation of the project’s status and supplemental environmental documents, which are based on the initial Environmental Assessment/Initial Study and Mitigated Negative Declaration adopted in 2010. Updates to the documents were required as a result of design and schedule changes. The meeting will also provide interested individuals an opportunity to provide public comment on the updated Supplemental EA/IS and MND documents.
Phases 2B and 3 are located along the existing levee on the eastern border of Marysville, extending from Jack Slough at its northern border down to Highway 70 at its southern end. The proposed levee improvements would reduce the risk of levee failure by installing a seepage cutoff wall and realigning the levee at some locations. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2020 and continue for four construction seasons.
Comments on the Draft Supplemental EA/IS/MND will be accepted until April 28, 2019. Written comments may be submitted through email to firstname.lastname@example.org or through postal mail to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Attn: Marysville Ring Levee project, 1325 J Street Room 1513, Sacramento, CA, 95814.
The 2010 Final EA/IS and Draft Supplemental EA/IS/MND for Phases 2B and 3 are available on the Sacramento District web page at https://www.spk.usace.army.mil/Missions/Civil-Works/Marysville-Ring-Levee/.
The City of Marysville is surrounded by 7.6 miles of ring levee that reduces flood risk to a population of more than 12,700 people and the region’s largest hospital, Rideout Memorial, which provides the only level-3 trauma services to more than 100,000 people throughout the Yuba-Sutter Area. The Marysville Ring Levee is a multi-phase, joint project of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Central Valley Flood Protection Board and Marysville Levee District that will upgrade the levee surrounding Marysville.
