Over the past several months, our community has experienced a number of deeply concerning violent assaults. We are aware of the public concern that some of these incidents may be connected or involve the same group of young adults.

The Nevada County District Attorney’s Office has held, and will continue to hold, regular meetings with our law enforcement partners across multiple jurisdictions to carefully review the facts and evidence in each matter. This collaborative effort is focused on determining whether there is a demonstrable pattern of criminal behavior, whether additional individuals may be involved, and whether further charges are legally supported.

What we can confirm is that felony charges have already been filed against certain individuals in connection with some of these incidents. Further, active investigations are underway with respect to other incidents that may result in further charges.

We are grateful to community members who have proactively come forward to raise concerns about violence in our community. Those concerns are heard, taken seriously, and carefully evaluated, and we will continue to be receptive to any additional information that may assist in ensuring accountability and public safety.

In addition, our office is committed to reaching out to and meeting with individuals and families who have been directly affected by this violence. It is essential that their voices are heard and that we clearly communicate what actions are being taken, or not taken, and the legal and evidentiary reasons behind those decisions.

Our responsibility is to ensure that charging decisions are driven by evidence and the law, not unconfirmed concerns or speculation, while holding individuals accountable when criminal conduct is proven. That review is ongoing, and where the evidence supports it, appropriate action will be taken.

Members of the public with relevant information are encouraged to report it directly to local law enforcement so it can be properly evaluated.

Sincerely,

District Attorney Jesse Wilson
