GRASS VALLEY – A free, community-wide Earth Day event will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2022 from 10am to 3pm.  Sierra Pines United Methodist Church, located near Lake of the Pines, will host “Earth Day in the Foothills 2022” on their 4.5-acre  campus.

Children Earth Day

“We are excited to host ‘Earth Day of the Foothills,’ celebrating creation, learning how to be good stewards of the earth and providing space for our community to come together,” says De Calvert, a member of Sierra Pines UMC.

The zero-waste, inaugural event will feature local performers including “Blue Oaks Acoustic,” “TRXTR” and The “Billy and the Bobcats,” as well as an open drum circle.  Heartwork will lead two of their individually-tailored photography nature classes, and folks of all ages and abilities will also be welcome to the meat-free cooking class, walking labyrinth, play areas and more.

“We’ve tried to extend the invitation far and wide,” says Chris Allan, a community organizer working on the event. “We know that so many folks in the region are eager to be outside at this time, coming together to participate in activities related to the planet that we all call home.”

Organizations as diverse as The Society of Garden Goddesses and the Alliance for Environmental Leadership will host informational booths in the main parking lot, and a variety of speakers and demonstrations will take place in the church’s multi-purpose room.

The free event will be held at 22559 W. Hacienda Drive, Grass Valley on the Sierra Pines United Methodist Church campus. Parking will be available in the main church lot, and on W. Hacienda. Carpooling is encouraged.

Please note that the live music, vendor booths, garden and other activities will be held outside on paved and unpaved terrain. Water stations will be available, and attendees are encouraged to bring reusable water bottles.  Picnics are welcome, as the only food available onsite will be “Earth Eat” cookies.  Canopies will be provided for shade near the live music areas – camp chairs are welcome, but folding and plastic chairs will also be available.
