NEVADA COUNTY, Calif. March 12, 2024 – The fifth election report has been released by the Nevada County Elections Office today. With less than 2,900 ballots remaining to be counted throughout Nevada County, results are solidifying.
Supervisorial district races
District 1 incumbent Heidi Hall appears to have cleared the 50% plus one vote requirement in the primary election again with 4,841 votes (57.24%) of the 9,096 ballots tallied. Her two opponents, Sue McGuire with 2,285 votes (27.02%) and Michael Taylor with 1,332 votes (15.75%) again appear to have failed in their attempts for the District 1 seat. Both have run and lost previously.
In District 2, Robb Tucker has cleared the 50% plus one vote hurdle at this time with 4,607 votes (51.93%) of the 8,659 ballots tallied. Jeff Pettitt is in second place with 2,065 votes (26.37) with John Herrera in third place with 1,454 votes (18.56%). Jason Tedder is a distant fourth with 246 votes (3.14%.)
The eastern part of Nevada County, District 5, will be represented by incumbent Hardy Bullock who ran unopposed. He garnered 2,895 votes so far – 100% of the votes cast in the race. There is a high number of undervotes (1,656) which is not unusual for a one-person only ballot.
Nevada City
In Nevada City, the three incumbents also ran unopposed. Daniela Fernรกndez, the current mayor, is the top vote getter with 760 votes, closely followed by Doug Fleming (751 votes) and Gary Petersen (658 votes.)
Local tax measures
Twin Ridges Elementary School District’s Measure A passes easily with 608 Yes votes (71.87%) vs the 238 No votes (28.13%)
Grass Valley’s Measure B, a general tax measure that required a simple majority vote, is now failing by 31 votes. The 1,900 Yes votes (49.60%) are trailing the 1,931 No votes (50.40%.) This contest is still within the margin of error and too close to call.
Nevada City’s Measure C, a special tax measure requiring a 2/3rds affirmative vote, is still passing with 867 Yes votes (69.42%) vs 382 No votes (30.58%.)
Other results
Proposition 1 is failing in Nevada County with 20,328 No votes (57.42%) vs 15,076 No votes (42.58%.) Statewide, Prop. 1 is currently passing with 3,119,893 Yes votes vs 3,090,851 No votes.
State Assembly District 1 local results have Tenessa Audette in the lead with 8,915 votes and Heather Hadwick in second place with 7,793 votes. Both republicans also lead the state-wide race with Hadwick in the lead with 37,739 votes and Audette in second place with 31,137 votes.
State Senate District 1 locally has Megan Dahle winning with 17,702 votes vs David Fennell with 3,877 votes. State-wide, Dahle has 128,770 votes (77.4%) vs Fennell’s 37,613 votes (22.6%.)
House of Representatives, District 3 locally favors Jessica Morse with 17,934 votes, Kevin Kiley in second place with 16,801 votes and Robert Smith with 695 votes. State-wide, Kiley is in the lead with 110,087 votes, followed by Morse with 86,919 votes and Smith with 4,055 votes.
In the race for the full U.S. Senate term, Republican Steve Garvey leads locally with 12,173 votes, followed by Democrat Adam Schiff with 11,769 votes. In the statewide race, Schiff leads with 2,011,607 votes and Garvey has 1,983,156 votes at this time.
In the Presidential primary, 11,217 local Republican voters voted for Donald Trump and 2,459 for Nikki Haley. Local Democrats voted 14,003 ballots for incumbent President Joe Biden and 567 cast their ballot for Marianne Williamson.
