NEVADA COUNTY, Calif. December 2, 2024 – One of local media’s jobs is to provide you with the tools to take part in local governance and the decision-making. Our “Engaged in the community” series is an invitation to everyone to participate and grow the fabric of this community.
Have you ever spoken at a Board of Supervisors meeting? The answer to that question is often No, for varying reasons. Meetings take place during the workday. Who knows what is on their agenda? Does a comment even matter?
This Friday, December 6 at 12:30 pm, we’ll be joined by Hardy Bullock, District 5 Supervisor and current Chair of the BOS, and Taylor Wolfe, the Public Information Officer for Nevada County. They’ll chat about the different ways Nevada County residents can participate in BOS meetings, ahead of time, in person or remotely. They’ll also highlight where to find and subscribe to the various agendas.
Some of the questions we’ll tackle: What’s the difference between public comment on items not on the agenda and public comment for items on the agenda? Why can’t a member of the public ask staff questions and why are the supes not answering questions asked of them during general public comment? What other options are there to be engaged in local issues that come before the BOS and how does an issue make it on the agenda?
Local government is where constituents’ voices have the most impact. But, what are they doing to make it easy for you? We’ll ask our panelists and invite you to attend the webinar by registering here, email us your questions ahead of time or ask them during the event.
We’ll invite the cities and town to a similar webinar soon to get you the information you need. It’s all part of the job.
