With flu season kicking off, Nevada County Public Health is hosting six free community flu vaccine clinics this month to make it easy for residents to get protected. Vaccines are free, no insurance is needed, and clinics serve ages 3 and up. Parents of children under 3 should contact their primary care provider to discuss options. With school, work, and busy fall schedules, this is a simple way to keep yourself and your loved ones healthy. Everyone 6 months and older is recommended to get a flu vaccine each year, including people who are planning a pregnancy, pregnant, postpartum, or lactating.
โOur most important message is simple, getting a flu vaccine will not give you the flu,โ said Dr. Sherilynn Cooke, Nevada County Health Officer. โWhat can be serious is the flu itself, which sends many people to the hospital each year. Vaccination is a safer choice than risking illness.โ
Why miss school, work, or holiday fun with family and friends? A quick flu shot protects you and helps keep the whole community healthy. Each year, flu causes up to 41 million illnesses nationwide. Getting vaccinated in October is the best way to stay protected all season long.
