Grass Valley – 3/6/2025 – The Local Responsibility Area (LRA) Fire Hazard Severity Zone maps prepared by the Office of The State Fire Marshal have been released for public review and comment. These maps, developed in accordance with state regulations by the California Office of the State Fire Marshal, classify areas within our community as “Moderate,” “High,” and “Very High” fire hazard severity zones, based on factors like vegetation, terrain, and weather patterns.
Residents can visit https://www.cityofgrassvalley.com/post/fire-hazard-severity-zones-2025 to view the interactive maps and find their property’s fire hazard severity zone rating. The community is encouraged to review the maps and provide comments at Council meetings in March or through the City website. It is crucial to note that local agencies may only increase the level of fire hazard severity as identified by the OSFM. They are prohibited from decreasing the severity level in any designated area.
Residential and commercial properties within designated zones may be required to implement specific wildfire mitigation practices, including defensible space clearing, and home/structure hardening measures to reduce risk of fire.
