November 24, 2021 – The Placer County Treasurer-Tax Collector Property is reminding property owners to avoid property tax penalties by paying the first installment of property taxes by Friday, December 10th at 5 p.m. for the 2021-2022 tax year. State law imposes a 10% penalty on delinquent first installment property tax payments. The Treasurer-Tax Collector strongly encourages taxpayers to pay by mail, phone or online through the Treasurer-Tax Collector’s website.
Payments may be made by mail or other carrier service by sending the payment to 2976 Richardson Drive, Auburn, CA 95603-2640. Payments must be postmarked no later than December 10, 2021. For those using the U.S. Postal Service, Placer County post offices send mail to the Sacramento mail center for cancellation which may be dated one to two days later than the date of mailing. To avoid penalties when mailing on or shortly before December 10th, taxpayers are advised to request hand cancellation at a U.S. Postal Office counter.
To pay by credit card, debit card, or electronic funds transfer (EFT), Placer County Tax Collector’s Office provides online or phone service through their website at www.placer.ca.gov/tax or toll free by calling 1-866-4TAXPMT (1-866-482-9768). Online payments made through the Tax Collector’s website are accepted without penalty until 11:59 p.m. on December 10, 2021. However, taxpayers are advised to make online payments well before midnight in the event of complications. The County’s third-party credit card agent charges a fee for credit, debit and EFT transactions. The amount of the fee will be calculated and disclosed during the payment process before the payer approves the online or telephone payment.
For those wishing to drop off their payment, a drive-up deposit box is located in front of the Tax Collector’s Office at 2976 Richardson Drive in Auburn. Payments must be placed in the drop box no later than 5:00 p.m. on December 10, 2021, to avoid penalty.
While taxpayers are encouraged to pay by mail, internet, phone or drop box, the Tax Collector’s Office is open for in person payments at the Treasurer-Tax Collector’s Office, 2976 Richardson Drive in Auburn. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., except holidays.
Taxpayers with questions about their bill may contact the Tax Collector by calling (530) 889-4120, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. In addition, an automated phone system is available 24 hours a day.
