Matt Kelley welcomed puppy Bambii as a new family member after meeting her at the first “Tails with Nevada County” dog hour at Nevada County Government Center in Nevada City earlier this month.

Kelley, director of the Nevada County Code and Cannabis Compliance Department, said he had been thinking about adopting a dog from the Nevada County Animal Shelter for a while, but was spurred into action after seeing little Bambii, a shelter resident, at his workplace.  “She’s cute, lovable and needed a new home,” he said.

Kelley brought his family and other dog, Olive, to meet Bambii and all fell in love with the pup’s energetic spirit. Kelley said the family was excited to add another pet. “It’s a good thing to do- to open your heart to a dog or a cat,” he said.

The shelter is working hard to find more forever-homes for its animals. On Tuesday, towards that end, SNIP mobile veterinary clinic spayed and neutered 37 animals, which resulted in 18 adoptions being finalized. Animals must be spayed and neutered before being adopted.

The next “Tails with Nevada County” dog hour is Feb. 27 from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Nevada County Government Center, 950 Maidu Ave., Nevada City. All are welcome to stop by. For more information about adoptions, visit www.sammiesfriends.org
