Nevada City, CA – The Nevada County Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) is operating a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site offering free tax preparation assistance and filing of simple returns.
If you earned less than $69,000 in 2025, you may qualify for assistance. VITA services, including dropoff and limited in-person appointments, are available until April 13.

Tax credits help working families and their communities thrive, yet many taxpayers leave credits unclaimed each year. Nevada County’s VITA program helps residents access the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), a fully refundable credit based on earned income. Your EITC credit amount depends on:
- annual income
- marital status
- number of qualifying children in the household
The program operates primarily as a drop-off service, with limited in-person appointments available.

Drop-Off or Email
- Visit the Social Services Office at the Government Center, 950 Maidu Avenue in Nevada City or email EITC@nevadacountyca.gov for intake forms.
- Complete intake forms onsite or at home.
- Drop off your tax documents and intake form with staff or email them
to EITC@nevadacountyca.gov. Staff will prepare your return and contact you for next steps.
- Return later to review and submit your completed return.
In-Person Appointments (Limited Availability)
- A small number of appointments will be available through April 13 for those who are not comfortable leaving their documents.
- Appointments must be scheduled in advance at 530-265-1727 or EITC@nevadacountyca.gov
