The Rotary Club of Grass Valley is hosting the ninth annual Gold Country Cycling Challenge on Saturday, June 1, 2024.
“We are excited to announce the addition of our new Wolf Creek Challenge, an 18-mile ride, with less than 1500 feet of climbing,” says Bob Long, Ride Director.
This 18-mile ride is a perfect introduction for beginner to intermediate or recreational cyclists. This new short route is great for beginners who are looking for a little bit of a challenge and participation in this special cycling event drawing riders from throughout the region, state and country. The event includes fully stocked rest stops, a lunch at the halfway point, experienced SAG and ride marshals, bike mechanics, and a bike safety check at the Fairgrounds.
The Wolf Creek Challenge ride starts at the Nevada County Fairgrounds, takes you through downtown Grass Valley, east toward the Empire Mine State Park, and through wooded residential roads. It ends with a ride through the Wolf Creek watershed back to the start for a celebratory Tri Tip BBQ with beer and soft drinks are included. There is a rest stop halfway before you begin the final climb.
The Gold Country Challenge offers several bicycle rides through the historic gold mining country of Western Nevada County. The premier signature ride is the 100-mile Century Ride. Other ride options include 74-mile, 54, 35 and 18-mile rides.

The Gold Country Challenge is promoting “Give ‘Em Three”—a new law, requiring motorists to allow three feet when passing a bicyclist on the road.
Proceeds from the event benefit the Rotary Club of Grass Valley’s youth activities – Lyman Gilmore School, College Scholarships, youth leadership training, Rotary Youth Exchange, speech and music contests, and literacy promotion activities AND now donate to Bright Futures For Youth and ride free.
