Take a break from the usual or start a new tradition – visit the Grass Valley Museum!

Located less than a mile from Mill Street is an experience like no other. When the times were tough during the Gold Rush, but spirits remained high, the former convent and orphanage still stands as a testament to the strength of the community.
View the building’s history through its architecture – From masonry and unique wood to the pressed tin lining in St. Joseph’s Hall – while you learn about the people who passed through its doors. Where did they come from? What did they study? How did they spend their free time?
Displays of art, textiles, and a fully restored Victorian era bedroom are among the other treasures at the site. Be sure to linger a little longer and enjoy The Russell Rose Garden – one of the oldest gardens in Nevada County.
