Grass Valley, CA: The Nevada County Democrats (NCD) has provided holiday cheer to homeless clients of Nevada County’s Hospitality House (HH) for decades. But for the past eight years, the NCD has provided those in need with gifts of individual envelopes filled with movie passes, Grocery Store Outlet gift cards and restaurant certificates. The funds for this program come from the generosity of folks who contribute to the NCD fundraising effort.

Hospitality House is the only organization in Nevada County committed to helping those who are food insecure and without shelter. Their core values align deeply with those of the Democratic community – compassion towards all, civil rights and inclusiveness.

Peter Minnet, NCD member: “This is the best way I know to give some meaningful support to folks with housing issues. The community of the Nevada County Democrats has consistently shown their generosity by donating towards gifts for people who are struggling. I have seen the joy on the faces of those receiving these gifts, and it makes me grateful to everyone who participates in raising the needed funds.”

Sydnie Day, HH Shelter Manager: “For most of our guests, the holidays have become a painful time. These wonderful gifts make them feel special, and the gift cards let them go out and get a few things that they want, which is normally out of reach for them. It’s really special to see them feel valued.”

With a goal of $6,000, the NCD are accepting donations towards the gift envelopes through the middle of December. Once the funds have been raised, the gift cards and certificates will be purchased and placed into festive envelopes then delivered to the Hospitality House clientele.
