Grass Valley, CA: Ring in the new year with InConcert Sierra and the vitality and spirit of an all-Beethoven concert featuring the renowned Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center on Sunday, January 18 at 2pm.
Beethoven’s music reflects transformation and growth, from the energy of his early works to the depth of his later compositions. The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’s program traces this evolution, making it a fitting way to begin the new year.
The warm and lyrical program is a unique glimpse into the remarkable artistic evolution of Ludwig van Beethoven. The program unfolds as a graceful arc, moving from the conversational ease of his “String Trio, Op. 9, No. 2,” to the lyrical “Sonata for Violin and Piano in E-flat, Op. 12, No. 3,” and culminates in the composer’s iconic “’Archduke’ Trio in B-flat Major for Piano, Violin, and Cello, Op. 97.” These works illuminate Beethoven’s transformative impact on chamber music.

The program features four CMS roster artists: pianist Juho Pohjonen, violinist Kristin Lee, violinist/violist Arnaud Sussmann, and cellist David Finckel, CMS co-artistic director. Their extensive experience and long-standing collaboration bring intense clarity, precision, and insight to Beethoven’s music.
This performance is part of InConcert Sierra’s Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center Residency Series. ICS is one of only eleven CMS residencies nationwide and the only one on the West Coast. The partnership, which began in 2018 and expanded with the launch of the residency, brings CMS artists—both established masters and rising talent—to the Sierra foothills, reflecting a shared commitment to making chamber music a vibrant and meaningful art form in the region.
There is a complimentary 1:15 pre-concert forum offering performer insights, composer context, and audience Q&A.
Since 1946, InConcert Sierra has brought world-class classical music to the Sierra Nevada region. The organization offers educational programs, outreach, and collaborations to inspire a love of classical music. ICS is currently building Crown Point Venues, featuring a new acoustic concert hall, conference center, and black box theater.
