Nevada County, CA – As Hunger Action Month begins, Interfaith Food Ministry (IFM) is reaching out to the community for support in our ongoing efforts to alleviate hunger in Nevada County. The impact of receiving food assistance through IFM extends far beyond satisfying immediate hunger. It alleviates the stress and anxiety associated with food insecurity, enabling individuals and families to focus on rebuilding their lives and pursuing opportunities for growth and stability.

This year, we face unprecedented challenges due to rising food costs and an increased demand for our services. Despite these obstacles, we remain steadfast in our dedication to helping Nevada County residents provide food for their families. The need is greater than ever, and we are committed to ensuring that no one in our community goes hungry.
One client recently shared, “They are quick, efficient, and also treat you with respect and don’t make you feel judged or looked down upon. This place is amazing!!!” This testimonial reflects IFM’s commitment to providing respectful, non-judgmental support to all individuals in need.
Looking ahead, IFM is preparing for our annual Thanksgiving and Christmas meal distributions. Last year, we served a record-breaking 8,000 Nevada County residents with Thanksgiving and Christmas meals. We anticipate similar, if not higher, numbers this year and are working tirelessly to meet the need of our community.
During Hunger Action Month, we are asking for your help in several ways:
- Donations: Every donation, no matter the size, makes a significant difference in our ability to provide nutritious groceries to those in need. Your contribution not only helps to alleviate hunger but also supports local vendors and farmers, ensuring that fresh, locally grown produce is available to our clients. You can donate easily online on our website: interfaithfoodministry.org, in person and by mail at 440 Henderson St. Grass Valley, CA 95945. We will be hosting drive through and drop off events throughout the month.
- Volunteers: As we prepare for our busy holiday season, we need volunteers more than ever. Whether it’s helping with food distribution, assisting in our gardens, or packing grocery bags, your time and effort are invaluable to our operations. Please contact us or visit our website to learn more.
- Grocery Bags: We also have an urgent need for reusable paper and plastic grocery bags. These bags are essential for distributing food to our clients in a sustainable way. If you have extra reusable grocery bags, please consider donating them to IFM. The best days to drop off bags at IFM are Tuesdays and Thursdays between 10:00am and 12:00pm.
With IFM’s strong buying power, each dollar donated stretches even further, allowing us to maximize the impact of every contribution. In addition to purchasing food, IFM also grows its own produce in our community gardens, providing fresh fruits and vegetables to the families we serve. Our monthly newsletters feature nutritious recipes, underscoring our commitment to educating the community on how to prepare delicious and healthy meals.
We’re making it easier than ever to donate this September with the help of some of our member churches. IFM began in the ’80s when several local churches joined forces, realizing they could make a bigger impact together. Today, we’re still driven by that same spirit of community. We will be hosting drive through and drop off events throughout Hunger Action Month.
