Nevada City Calif. – The Nevada County Elections Office invites members of the public to observe a randomized alphabet drawing to determine the order of some candidate names on the ballot for the June 2, 2026 Statewide Direct Primary Election.

The drawing will take place at 10 a.m. March 12 at the Nevada County Elections Office, 950 Maidu Ave., Nevada City. It will determine the order of state Senate and Assembly candidate names on the Nevada County ballot.

Rather than appearing in traditional alphabetical order, candidates’ names are arranged according to the randomly selected alphabet. This process is required by California Elections Code and is designed to ensure fairness in ballot design by preventing any candidate from consistently benefiting from standard alphabetical order.

The California Secretary of State’s Office will conduct a randomized alphabet drawing to determine the order of all other candidate names on March 12 at 11 a.m.
