The welcome rain on Saturday also brought thunderstorms with 614 lightning strikes throughout the northern portion of California. The majority of downstrikes was recorded in the Foothills, with a good portion on the Tahoe and Eldorado National Forests.

Locally, the Tahoe National Forest recorded 111 downstrikes between 12:44 and 4:58 pm. Aerial and ground patrols will continue over the next few days to catch any delayed ignitions, called sleepers.

As a reminder, the burn ban remains in effect.
