Adam grew up in our community and attended local schools before opening his own downtown retail business in his 20s, giving him firsthand experience of the challenges and joys of being a small town merchant. As merchants, this has translated into support that we notice in the following ways:

Since his election in 2022, Adam has led discussions which have long been delayed around infrastructure improvements, and has taken action to improve walkability downtown, as well as to confront challenging issues surrounding our aging water and sewer systems.

In service to our local businesses, Adam serves alongside Vice Mayor Lou Ceci as a liaison between the Council and the Chamber of Commerce. The relationship between the City and the Chamber hasnโ€™t always been this strong, and the Chamber has been thankful that Adam and Lou show up, listen, and participate.

A musician himself, Adam is well-known to be a supporter of the arts, though โ€” and despite claims to the contrary โ€“ he has not pushed for allowing murals in our historic downtown. Instead, he simply recognizes that arts and culture are deeply rooted in this place, have always been a cornerstone of Nevada Cityโ€™s appeal, and should be protected and supported.

Though these last few years have been challenging for small businesses generally, Nevada Cityโ€™s sales tax revenue grew 35% from 2019 to 2021, and remained at this higher level during Adamโ€™s first term. While iconic businesses have closed โ€“ due in part to planned retirements โ€“ promising new businesses have formed in their place. In the last four years, weโ€™ve seen businesses such as Communal Cafe, Restaurant DaKan, Garnish, Enid and Edgar, Winnie Superette, Wonder Docent, The Parsonage, BrewHaus & more break ground and prosper. Indeed, we have fewer vacant storefronts downtown than we did when Adam entered office four years ago.

It is also important to remember that Adamโ€™s is one voice on a council of five, all of whom take care to sustain our business environment. In Nevada City, we are represented by a team of community minded leaders, and Adam has served the cityโ€™s business interests with dedication and care.

And to the broader community, it has never been more important to shop locally, as your dollars donโ€™t just get you great products and services, they sustain the vibrancy, character, and well-being of our community and our city.
