Nevada City, CA — Do you love birds? Are you interested in knowing more about them? The Sierra Foothills Audubon Society (SFAS) invites the community to join the SFAS Education Team for another evening of fun and interactive discussion in its ongoing series, FOR THE LOVE OF BIRDS, on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. at the Madelyn Helling Library Community Room in Nevada City.

This program will explore favorite winter backyard birds, while also expanding beyond the backyard to celebrate the wonderful variety of winter waterbirds that visit our region. Participants will learn about local and Sacramento Valley lakes and ponds where winter waterfowl can be seen, and gain tips on where to go birdwatching during the colder months.

The evening will also include time learning to identify winter visitors at backyard feeders, with fun bird ID quizzes designed to help attendees recognize common species with confidence.

Special guest speakers Nora and Bruce Kirk of Wild Birds Unlimited will discuss the importance of feeding birds in winter and demonstrate the types of feeders that best attract various bird visitors. They will also share best practices for maintaining feeders and keeping birds safe during changeable winter weather.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to visit tables for a hands-on look at birdfeeders, maps for viewing winter waterfowl, and bluebird nest boxes. Snacks will be provided.

The event is free and open to the public, and all experience levels are welcome.
