Governor Gavin Newsom issued the following statement regarding the death of Marysville Police Department Officer Osmar Rodarte:

“Our thoughts are with the Marysville community and Officer Rodarte’s family as we mourn his sudden and tragic loss. His service and dedication to the safety of the community will never be forgotten.”  

On March 26, 2025,  while responding to a multi-agency search warrant in Olivehurst, Officer Rodarte was shot and later succumbed to his injuries. Officer Rodarte was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the Marysville Police Department for two years. 

Officer Rodarte is survived by his children.

In honor of Officer Rodarte, flags at the State Capitol and Capitol Annex Swing Space will be flown at half-staff.

Earlier today: On behalf of the Marysville Police Department and Chief Sachs:

Marysville, CA – Early this morning, multiple law enforcement agencies executed a series of search warrants as part of an ongoing investigation into drug and firearm- related crimes. At approximately 7:50 a.m., during the operation at one of the locations, a subject opened fire, resulting in the injury of a Marysville Police Department officer.

The officer received immediate medical attention and was transported to Adventist Health Rideout, where, tragically, he succumbed to his injuries. The suspect was also struck during the exchange of gunfire and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The identification of the officer is being withheld pending next of kin notifications.

The incident is being investigated by the Yuba-Sutter Critical Incident and Officer- Involved Shooting Investigation Team.
