MARYSVILLE, CA – At approximately 5:30 p.m. on Friday, July 4, 2025, the Yuba County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a possible drowning in the Feather River west of the Star Bend boat ramp. A group of people had walked to a remote beach and entered the water when one of them, a 16-year-old male from Marysville, fell into a deep channel and began to struggle before submerging.
Responding agencies included the Yuba County Sheriff’s Boat Unit and Technical Rescue Team, Linda Fire Department, Yuba City Fire Department, Sutter County Sheriff’s Office, Marysville Fire Department, and the Yuba Sutter Aero Squadron with aerial search support. The search continued until darkness halted diving operations.
This afternoon at approximately 3:30 p.m., the juvenile’s body was located in roughly 17 feet of water and recovered by the Yuba County Sheriff’s Office Technical Rescue Team. The identification of the juvenile is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
This tragic incident highlights the unpredictable hazards of river channels, especially in colder temperatures and with such strong undercurrents. Our deep-felt sympathy and prayers go out to the family and friends of the victim.
