Wright brings more than two decades of experience in public service, local government, and organizational leadership. Her background includes work in municipal operations, economic development, housing, and community engagement, with a focus on supporting local economies, strengthening business districts, public spaces, and ensuring organizations remain fiscally healthy and responsive to residents.

Most recently, Wright served in a senior leadership role with a Sacramento-based consulting firm supporting public agencies and community organizations across California. In that role, she worked closely with clients and nonprofits to build regional collaboration and capacity, ensuring communities are prepared for the future.

During her career, Wright has held leadership positions with the City of Stockton, UC Davis, and Cal Expo, where she worked on initiatives related to economic development, venue and event operations, public-private partnerships, and revenue generation. These roles provided her with hands-on experience balancing economic vitality with community needs, and supporting local businesses, while maintaining strong public services.

Wright and her husband, Greg, have two sons, Max and Sam. As a family, they have spent more than 20 years traveling throughout Northern California exploring small towns, local history, and new camping destinations, along with a few international backpacking trips. Carrie and Greg enjoy gardening and spending time together as a family. They are looking forward to relocating to the area and becoming part of the community as soon as possible.

Upon her appointment, Wright said, โ€œI am honored by the opportunity to serve Nevada City as City Manager. This is a community with a deep sense of history and connection, and I see my role as a stewardโ€”supporting the great work already underway, listening closely, and helping the City thoughtfully prepare for the future while caring for what makes Nevada City special.โ€

Mayor Adam Kline  addressed her selection by saying โ€œWe are excited to welcome Carrie to Nevada City. She brings a strong understanding of how cities function day-to-day and a genuine appreciation for our community. The Council is confident she will be a supportive partner to staff and a careful steward of the City as we plan for whatโ€™s ahead.  I am looking forward to working with her.โ€

The City Council also extends its sincere gratitude to Joan Phillipe, who stepped in as Interim City Manager for the second time to support the City during transition. Her steady leadership, institutional knowledge, and commitment to Nevada City have been invaluable, and the Council and community are deeply appreciative of her service.

Wright will be formally introduced at the January 14 City Council meeting. Additional opportunities for residents and business owners to meet her and share their perspectives will be announced in the coming weeks.
