Nevada City, CA — The Nevada City Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce the recipients of its 2024 Business & Community Awards, recognizing outstanding contributions to the local economy, culture, and civic life. These awards celebrate the individuals and organizations that embody the spirit of Nevada City and make meaningful, lasting impacts on the community.
According to Wendy Ermshar, the Chamber board president, “Much of what defines the unique character of Nevada City is the amount of inspiring of talented citizens who contribute to the vibrancy of our community through art, industry and philanthropy. This year’s recipients are a testament to how each of us can have a profound impact on the life of others.”
New Business of the Year: Winnie Superette
Winnie Superette has quickly become more than just a food store—it is a cultural hub for Asian food and traditions. Owner Ann Hahn opened the market to provide access to both traditional staples and modern specialty goods, filling a gap in the local culinary scene. Business of the Year: Piety Hill Cottages
Kimi Milo and Travis Parsley, owners of Piety Hill Cottages, have breathed new life into this classic 1930s auto court, located just outside Nevada City’s historic district. Since purchasing the property in 2020, they’ve lovingly restored seven of the nine vintage cottages and continue to invest in the site’s revival. Their vision includes future event hosting and preserving the property’s long-standing heritage for generations to come.

Her work continues to unite and strengthen Nevada County’s cultural and civic life.
New Construction of the Year: The William Falconi Bridge
The William Falconi Bridge pays homage to Nevada City’s rich history while providing a modern infrastructure upgrade. Spearheaded by engineers Bill Falconi and Brian McAlister, the design features historic trusses inspired by the original 19th-century bridge that once stood in the same location. Falconi and McAlister were also honored by the Nevada County Branch of the Engineers Association for their work on the project.

A tireless volunteer and dedicated Mortgage Specialist since 2005, Tina Skrukrud receives this year’s Elza Kilroy Award. Her accolades include Volunteer of the Year (Rotary District 4, 2020), the 2023 Penn Valley Humanitarian of the Year Award, and the 2024 Nevada County Board of Realtors Citizen of the Year Award.
