Nevada City, CA – The City of Nevada City, in partnership with the Public Arts Commission, invites you to the first official exhibit in the City Hall Art Meets the Public (CHAMP) Gallery. The CHAMP Gallery is a new public art space within the entryway and hall of City Hall. The inaugural theme matches the City Council’s adopted vibrancy initiative, “Year of the Neighborhood,” which encourages local artists to explore community, connection, and resilience themes.
The Public Arts Commission and City Council will host a grand opening and social gathering for the CHAMP Gallery from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Wed., Jan. 22, 2025, at 317 Broad St. View the artwork, meet the artists, and get to know your neighbors as we celebrate the new gallery and work of amazing local artists.
The “Year of the Neighborhood” exhibit will run from early January 2025 through May 1, 2025, showcasing works that celebrates Nevada City’s vibrant neighborhoods. Artists were invited to submit pieces that interpret the theme broadly, exploring how neighborhoods foster togetherness, provide support, and create a space for people to thrive.

“This exhibit showcases art, as well as our community,” said Mayor Gary Petersen. “The focus is about connecting with our neighbors and building an even stronger, more vibrant community.”
The CHAMP Gallery is part of a broader public art initiative established in 2023 under Nevada City’s Strategic Plan for Vibrancy. The City Council created the Nevada City Public Arts Commission, which meets on the first Wednesday of every month, to expand access to art in all forms throughout the city.
The Public Arts Commission (PAC) meets on the first Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall, and the community is invited to attend. The next theme, selected by PAC, and a call to artists will happen in March, with the exhibit running from May until September.
