Nevada City, Calif. – Nevada County has been awarded a state Prohousing designation reserved for communities that go above and beyond in enacting policies that accelerate housing production, lower costs and expand opportunity.
The designation, awarded by the California Department of Housing and Community Development, could put the County in line for more state dollars for housing-related projects.
Among the County’s housing accomplishments are making housing and homelessness Board priority objectives, making it easier for residents to build Accessory Dwelling Units, like tiny houses and in-law units, approving tiny houses on wheels as permanent housing, and stepping up efforts to provide homeless services and cleaning up homeless encampments.
The new Prohousing designation is in line with the Board of Supervisors’ dedication to remove barriers to housing.
“Earning California’s Prohousing designation is a proud milestone for our County,” said Board of Supervisors Chair Heidi Hall. “It affirms our commitment to tackling the housing crisis and ensure we can have housing for our teachers, health care workers, firefighters, and all our working families.”
