Grass Valley — The Nevada County Superintendent of Schools and the Nevada County Library co-hosted a Latino Conservation Week tree planting event at the Grass Valley Library – Royce Branch on September 16.

The event was organized by Superintendent of Schools Scott W. Lay, Sarah Morgan and Angelly Figarella of PARTNERS Family Resources, and Emily Phillips, youth librarian at the Nevada County Library.

The Red Maple tree was generously donated by Weiss Brothers Nursery. The tree represents the lasting legacy that our local families and communities have on our county and will shade the corner of the library for many years to come.

Latino Conservation Week is a nationwide annual celebration that highlights the contributions of Latino communities and encourages everyone to take part in caring for the environment.

In Nevada County, the week serves as a reminder to enjoy and protect local natural spaces by planting trees and flowers, picking up litter, hiking, biking, and even taking a late-summer swim.
