NEVADA CITY, Calif July 9, 2024 – Twenty-five of Nevada County’s firefighters are assisting on incidents throughout the state, including on the Royal Fire near Soda Springs. When the Incident Commander of that fire requested strike teams to respond to the incident on Sunday afternoon, Task Force 4103 was already assembled and responded.

Task Force 4103 is composed of:

  • OES 4610 (engine) Nevada County Consolidated
  • OES 4609 (engine) Grass Valley
  • E6168 (engine) North San Juan
  • B57 (engine) Peardale/Chicago Park
  • WT 42 (Water tender) Ophir Hill
  • WT 84 (Water tender) Nevada County Consolidated

“We are fully staffed. We upstaffed the task force last week through Cal OES, all 6 pieces of equipment and 16 firefighters were already assembled when deployed ‘immediate need’ to the Royal incident. We always ensure our local coverage is not impacted before sending out additional resources. Nevada County Consolidated Fire will only send out resources when it doesnโ€™t impact or dilute our local mission,” said Nevada County Consolidated Fire Chief Jason Robitaille.

Other firefighters are assigned to large incidents in the state:

Overhead J. Nelson (Ophir Hill) – KNF, J. Drummond DIVS (GV) -Royal, C. Thomas MEDL (PV) -Lake, J. Ramey MEDL (Peardale Chicago Park) – Vista Fire, D. Nichols EMTF (T) Nevada County Consolidated – Shelly, Lehman EMT (T) (NSJ) Shelly.

As fire activity increases, strike teams will respond to incidents as needed, leaving always sufficient resources for a robust initial attack.

The Cal OES Operations Division under the Fire and Rescue Branch coordinates the California Fire and Rescue Mutual Aid System. The response of fire and rescue personnel and resources, through the Mutual Aid System, includes responses to major fires, earthquakes, tsunamis, hazardous materials, and other disasters.
