Nevada City, CA – On Thursday, October 2, 2025, community members are invited to join a half-day strategic visioning event at the Miners Foundry Cultural Center in Nevada City to help shape the future of survivor support and violence prevention in Nevada County.

The event marks a pivotal step in the planning of a local Family Justice Center (FJC). Family Justice Centers are multi-agency, multi-disciplinary co-located service centers that provide services to victims of inter-personal violence including, intimate partner violence, sexual assault, child abuse, elder or dependent adult abuse, and human trafficking. Both public and private partner agencies assign staff on a full-time or part-time basis to provide services from one location.

“Building a Family Justice Center is about creating a community where survivors feel seen, supported, and empowered,” says Jesse Wilson, Nevada County District Attorney. “This visioning event is our chance to design that future together.”

Family Justice Center of Nevada County (FJCNC)

The Family Justice Center model, first launched in San Diego in 2002, has since been recognized nationally as a best practice in addressing family violence. The FJC framework is now a proven model, and a growing movement built on evidence-bast best practices that increase safety, improve outcomes, and reduce the long-term costs of violence. Our FJC in Nevada County is a part of a broader network of centers working together to ensure survivors across California and the nation receive streamlined, trauma-informed services in one safe location. Documented outcomes of Family Justice Centers include:

  • Increased safety, autonomy, and empowerment for survivors
  • Reduced fear and anxiety for survivors and their children
  • Reduced recantation and minimization by survivors when wrapped in services and support
  • Reduced trauma by minimizing the need to navigate multiple agencies
  • Stronger collaboration and efficiency among service providers
  • Increased prosecution of offenders
  • Expanded community-based support for survivors and their children

The October 2nd visioning event will bring together survivors, community members, service providers, government agencies, and local leaders to create a shared vision for Nevada County’s Family Justice Center. Your voice matters. Help design a collaborative center that reflects the values and needs of our community.

About the Nevada County Family Justice Center Planning Initiative
The Family Justice Center of Nevada County (FJCNC) is a community-driven initiative led by local government agencies, service providers, survivors, and community members. Its mission is to establish a safe, welcoming, and comprehensive resource center where survivors of violence can find the support they need under one roof. FJCNC is currently in its strategic planning phase and plans to launch operations in early 2026. It is implementing an inclusive approach that ensures key stakeholders and survivors are involved, their input is considered and reflected in the planning process, and that the vision for FJCNC aligns with the community’s values, resources and objectives. Current organizational partners who are involved and support this project include: Bright Futures for Youth, Common Goals, Community Beyond Violence, Grass Valley Police Department, Hospitality House, Nevada City Police Department, Nevada County Adult Services, Nevada County Child Welfare Services, Nevada County District Attorney’s Office, Nevada County Social Services, Nevada County Sheriff’s Office, Soroptimist International of Grass Valley, Western Sierra Medical Clinic, and Women of Worth.
