Kickoff Celebration

Nevada County Reads 2026 will officially launch with a kickoff celebration on Thursday, Feb. 6, at 12 p.m. at Madelyn Helling Library in Nevada City. The event will feature a ceremonial tree planting inspired by the themes of North Woods, symbolizing environmental stewardship, community resilience and the deep relationship between people and the natural world.

The tree will be planted by the Master Gardeners of Nevada County, who will also give a brief presentation on the history and significance of oak trees in the region. Attendees can enjoy coffee, hot chocolate and small refreshments, along with live music by local musician Chris Crockett. Honor copies of North Woods will also be available at the event.

Community Programs and Author Visit

Nevada County Reads is designed to foster community connection through reading, discussion and shared experiences. In addition to a variety of programs and events that will be announced throughout the Nevada County Reads period, Nevada County Library and its partners have invited author Daniel Mason to Sierra College (Nevada County Campus) for a public author talk on April 11.
