NEVADA CITY, CA – The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) is pleased to announce and welcome K9 Lambo, a 15-month-old Belgian Malinois. He is from a local breeder and was raised and trained by Modern Canine in Sacramento before being paired with his handler, Deputy Kayla Ramos.

In addition to being trained by Modern Canine, he and Deputy Ramos just completed six weeks of training through D-TAC K9, a Northern California training organization that specializes in patrol and detection K9 training. In total, Deputy Ramos and K9 Lambo completed 240 hours of training and graduated from the program on Friday, May 15.
K9 Lambo is now Peace Officers and Standards Training certified in K9 patrol and detection, specializing in obedience, suspect searching, building searching, tracking, article detention, handler protection, and apprehension. It is anticipated he will undergo additional training in the fall to become narcotics detection certified as well.

The acquisition of K9 Lambo as well as all the specialized training he and Deputy Ramos received to prepare for the Sheriff’s Office was generously donated by the Rudiger Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to providing local law enforcement with K9 resources.
K9 Lambo officially hit the streets with Deputy Ramos on patrol this past Sunday night.

K9 Lambo is the fifth K9 to join the team since Sheriff Moon reestablished the program in 2020. The first K9, Ranger, retired in May 2024 and sadly, K9 Riggs passed away in March of this year. K9s Lambo, Odin, and Vito now represent the K9 Program at NCSO.
The Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Rudiger Foundation for their steadfast support of the NCSO K9 Program.
