The Nevada County Superintendent of Schools (NCSOS) is excited to host its first-ever Early Learning Conference on September 28th, marking a significant milestone in its efforts to support and strengthen the early childhood education community in Nevada County. For the first time, NCSOS is bringing together leaders from across early care and education to address some of the most pressing challenges and opportunities in the field.

In partnership with the Local Planning Council for Early Learning Services (LPC), this conference will provide a platform for collaboration among local education agencies, community organizations, and key partners. As the landscape of early childhood education continues to evolve with Universal Pre-K and Universal TK, aligning and expanding services to meet the needs of our youngest learners is more critical than ever. This event will equip early learning educators, directors, TK teachers, and administrators with tools to enhance the quality of care and education for children aged 3-5, while also providing support for families. Attendees will benefit from training grounded in the latest science of learning and development.

“This conference represents a major step forward in uniting the early education community in Nevada County. By bringing together educators, administrators, and community partners, weโ€™re creating a collaborative space to ensure that every child in our county has access to high-quality early learning opportunities,” said Rossnina Dort, Early Learning Services Director. “We are excited to take this important step in improving the future of early childhood education in our county.”

“The science of early learning is constantly evolving, and we want to make sure that our educators are equipped with the most up-to-date knowledge and strategies,” added Christine McCormick, Associate Superintendent of Educational Services. “This conference will provide our teachers and administrators with practical tools and resources they can immediately apply to improve their classrooms and, ultimately, outcomes for our students.”

Why This Matters:
Investing in early childhood education is essential to ensuring the long-term success of children both in school and in life. High-quality early learning programs are foundational for brain development, social-emotional well-being, and future academic achievement. By bringing together leaders and educators at this conference, NCSOS is making a bold commitment to improving educational outcomes, fostering a strong start for every child, and ensuring that our communityโ€™s early education system is equipped to meet future demands.

Event Highlights:

  • Breakout sessions focused on optimal learning environments, curriculum design, social-emotional learning strategies, and effective assessment techniques.
  • Strengthening partnerships with Universal Pre-K leaders to ensure high-quality learning options for 3- and 4-year-olds, while aligning curricula from preschool through early elementary grades.

This conference is open to all early childhood educators, administrators, and partner organizations working in or supporting early childhood education. A $150 stipend is available for early childhood teachers, directors, and providers (including private, state-funded, and TK teachers) who attend all four sessions. Please note, stipends are limited to the first 60 registrants.
